The Back Story.
The idea to host a show featuring pieces with a spiritual/devotional theme kinda simmered/morphed/evolved the past few months.

It started in early summer when Judy was approached by Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue to submit pieces for their November Menorah Show at Margolis Gallery. Being raised Catholic, this lead her to much research, discussions, and experiments to create one-of-a-kind menorahs. It was fascinating to delve into the history of the Hanukkah ritual.

At the same time Earnest was branching out with exploration of Buddha sculptures. He was working on Buddhas of different ethnicity, hand gestures, and poses. He then expanded his subjects to include Gandhi, St. Francis of Assisi and even shaman in animal garb. Earnest was on fire!

John has made prayer bowls and carved candle lanterns for years and always makes new ones for the holiday season. The large serving bowls are created on the pottery wheel. At just the right dryness John then hand carves a devotional prayer on the rim. The candle lanterns most often have just a decorative pierced-pattern but sometimes they have a spiritual theme.

So.......we start noticing each others' work in the studio. We may be a bit slow but we started to see the theme. OK, OK, universe, you don't have to hit us over the head....... And that's how the idea of a "FAITH" show happened!
