Junior Girl Scout Badge:
Ceramics and Clay
Visit a real, working pottery studio! Experience a day in the life of a professional potter!
3 hour class. $45 per person.
Minimum of 6 scouts. Maximum of 20 scouts.
If your troop is larger than 20 girls, please contact us.
Dress very casually, things can get messy!
Aprons will be provided.
Learn to use the potter's wheel. Handbuild a special box. Add underglazes (color) to your creation. Tour the studio. See the different kilns, glaze room, and gallery.
Each girl should have one wheel-thrown piece and one handbuilt box at the end of the workshop. The scout leader will be contacted a few weeks after the workshop to pick up the scouts' glazed and kiln fired pottery.
Badge Requirements:
#1, 3, 5, 6, and 8 will be completed.
We recommend a visit to the Menil Museum
before or after your pottery workshop
to complete Badge Requirement #10.

Learn to use the potter's wheel. Create a handbuilt piece using various techniques. Add decorative elements to your work. Tour the kiln yard and see how kilns are fired.
Each boy should have one wheel-thrown piece and one handbuild piece by the end of the workshop. The scout leader will be contacted a few weeks after the workshop to pick up the scouts' glazed and kiln-fired pottery.
Badge Requirements:
#2, #4, # 5, and # 7 will be completed. Troop leader will
receive an answer sheet of pottery terms.
We will be happy to work with you in signing off other
requirements depending on the size of your group.
